How does it work?
Our digital subscriptions allow you to control when you want to access your parish resources. You no longer have to wait for your order to arrive in the mail. You simply log in, find the product you want, and click the “View Digital” button. This will allow you to easily print or email the issue. (If you purchase Bringing Home the Word, you even have the rights to print or post excerpts from the content in all of your parish communications.)
When you purchase a subscription, you can log in at any time to view any of the available files. For lectionary-based resources (Homily Helps and Bringing Home the Word), you will have access to the current month and the month after that. You will receive email reminders when it is time to renew your subscription. If you choose to be billed (rather than pay by credit card), you will be sent an invoice via email only.
How do I know which issues are available digitally?
If you have not purchased any digital issues or subscriptions: There will be a button that says “Buy Digital Access” on each item’s catalog page, underneath the image of the item. If it is not available digitally, no button will appear. If you want to purchase the issue, click the “Buy Digital Access” button. If you would like to buy the subscription, please click the link to the right that will take you to the subscription purchase page.
If you have already purchased a digital issue or subscription: Click “My Digital Library” in the upper-right corner. This will take you to a list of the digital products you have purchased. (If you are not logged in, you will need to provide your username and password first.)
Can I cancel?
No, due the instant access of digital products, we are not able to provide a cancelation option. Also, once your subscription expires, you no longer have the right to distribute any of the issues in any way—even if you printed them during your valid subscription period. You have distribution rights only while you have a current and active subscription.
Do I need special software to view the issues?
You will need to have Adobe® Reader® on your computer, which can be downloaded free here.
Can I continue to hand out the printed copies I made before my subscription expired?
No, once your subscription expires, you are no longer permitted to distribute the copies you have made. We ask that you please renew your digital subscription before you use them.
Do I get a discount on the subscription if I purchased three individual issues already?
No, unfortunately we are not able to provide credit for individually purchased issues. This allows us to keep the subscription rate lower, encouraging parishes to use all of our digital resources available. We ask that you please consider your needs carefully and make your purchase accordingly.
If I purchase an individual issue, how long do I have the right to distribute it?
You have the right to distribute that issue for an entire year from the date of purchase. In that regard, we consider a purchase of one issue like a subscription to that particular issue. As such, once your subscription expires, you no longer have the right to distribute the issue in any way—even if you printed it during your valid subscription period. You have distribution rights only while you have a current and active subscription.
Can I post the issues on our parish website?
If your parish website has a password-protected area, then you have the right to post the issue(s) in that area for the period of your subscription. If the subscription expires, the issues will need to be removed. You are NEVER allowed to post the issue(s) in an unsecured area on your parish website or any other website.
Bringing Home the Word—exception: With this specific publication, you are allowed (and encouraged) to post this on websites and social media sites for your parish. Please follow the specific rules of the license agreement for Bringing Home the Word.
Can I excerpt the articles and print them in our parish bulletin?
At this time, you are permitted to cut and paste only from Bringing Home the Word.
Will the printed newsletters still be available for purchase?
Yes, most Catholic Update newsletters available digitally also will be available for purchase as a printed issue from Franciscan Media.
If you have not purchased any digital issues or subscriptions: There will be a button that says “Add to Cart” on each item’s catalog page. If it is not available as a print item, no button will appear.
If you have already purchased a digital issue or subscription: Click “My Digital Library” in the upper-right corner. This will take you to a list of the digital products that you have purchased. (If you are not logged in, you will need to provide your username and password first.) Click the “Learn More…” link next to the item you want to order. You will be directed to our catalog page for that item and are able to click “Add to Cart” to purchase the number of printed copies you would like.
Should I purchase digital access if I will only be distributing printed copies?
You may consider purchasing digital access to enhance the printed copies you order. Purchasing the digital subscription allows you to view all available issues, email or print an issue for a parishioner or someone who came to the church office with a question, and get instant access to any you may need or want unexpectedly.
Why would I want to purchase printed issues if I have a digital subscription?
If you are planning to distribute a large quantity of printed newsletters, you may consider ordering them from Franciscan Media. At times, it might be cheaper to allow us to print them, than to print them yourself.
What if I have a digital subscription and also purchased printed copies from Franciscan Media?
Any issues printed by Franciscan Media that you have purchased are able to be distributed regardless of your digital subscription status.
Do you have any newsletters available in Spanish?
We have a number of Catholic Updates available in Spanish. They are included as part of the Catholic Update digital subscription.
