Reflect
John’s Gospel (12:2a) lets us know that Martha was again serving. No mention of Mary. Is there another lesson tucked in here? Was Martha’s gift possibly entertaining? And Mary’s was not? Was Mary’s gift (or “better part”—Lk10:42) in embracing her contemplative attitude; a desire to know God better? Did Martha just need to let Mary embrace her own strength while Martha worked on hers?

Pray that God might help me to nurture my own strengths
and accept others as they foster their own gifts.
Act
Be attentive to yourself and to others today. Discern your gifts, and glorify God by working on them. Notice and appreciate others’ strengths. Accept and be grateful.
