God’s Embrace of Human Sadness

Reflect

As hard as it is to cope with, sadness is a part of life and a hidden opportunity to get closer to God. In our sorrows, we are brought into solidarity with Jesus, who wept bitterly in the Garden of Gethsemane. May this prayer about sadness bring you some light in the darkness you are experiencing.

Pray

Dear Lord, tears are streaming down my face and I feel alone,
separate from you and from those I love.

Only your love and mercy can turn this sorrow into strength.
I pray to you to reach into the broken places in my heart
and mend them.
Amen.

Act

What causes you sadness? Meditate on how your suffering is not meaningless, but rather a tool for cultivating compassion.
