Sharing the Word for February 13, 2021

Saturday of the Fifth Week in Ordinary Time

February 13, 2021
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Genesis 3:9-24

Sin has consequences. One is the inclination to deny responsibility: “She made me do it.” Another is a different relationship between man and woman: “He shall be your master.” Another is a changed relationship with creation: “In toil you shall eat its yield all the days of your life.” Human life has now become burdensome. The serpent, the icon of evil, is condemned to constant opprobrium. Evil will always be ugly.

Yet even in their fallen state men and women are the objects of God’s care. The offspring of the woman will strike at the offspring of the serpent. The garment of skins that God makes for them shows his continued concern.

There are consequences to sin in every human being. Its power is real.
