Sharing the Word for February 25, 2021

Thursday of the First Week of Lent

February 25, 2021
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Esther C:12, 14-16, 23-25

In today’s First Reading Queen Esther is preparing to accuse the king’s prime minister of conspiracy. She knows she needs the Lord’s help. She’s praying her heart out.

This reading reminds us that if we are going to change our hearts during this season of Lent we need God’s help. We need to pray.

It’s not that God has to be persuaded to help us. God knows our needs and is anxious to respond to them. The reason we have to pray is so that we do not lose sight of how much we depend on God’s goodness and how vulnerable we are without it. If we don’t pray our hearts out we run the risk of forgetting who and what we are.
