Daily Reading from the USCCB: Matthew 8:23-27
There are few experiences more frightening than to be caught in a stormy sea. It’s the perfect image to describe crises that come crashing down in our lives too. It may be a sudden comment from a doctor: “Oh, oh. We’ve got a problem here with your right lung.” And isn’t it true that hearing such frightening words causes everything in life then to take on a new perspective?
Jesus’ care and concern for the lives of his apostles who were in danger reminds us that God is not a billion miles away somewhere in the sky. He is with us and within us, watching and caring for us.
We may not always be conscious of God’s presence as our fears take over, but there is no doubt that God is always with us in all the situations that we face. How many children realize that they are always present to their mothers? Just so, we are always present to God.
