Daily Reading from the USCCB: Matthew 9:18-26
Today we see Jesus in the midst of crowds and disorder. First, there is the important official whose daughter is dying. Jesus listens to his request and goes with him. On the way another drama: a woman with a condition that made her a social outcast. In response to her plea Jesus cures her with a word.
Now he continues to the official’s house which is full of commotion because the daughter has died. Jesus prepares to raise the girl. The uproar increases. Jesus takes the girl by the hand and she returns to life.
Jesus exercises power over death and illness. Calmly, effortlessly, he cures the sick and raises the dead. In the midst of ferment he puts things right–then and now.
