Memorial of Saints Martha, Mary, and Lazarus

July 29, 2021
Daily Reading from the USCCB: John 11:19-27

We know very little about Martha. She entertained Jesus a few times in her home. On one occasion Jesus found it necessary to remind her that listening to him was better than tending to the fine points of hospitality.

We also know that when her brother Lazarus died, Martha turned to Jesus for comfort. He responded to her confidence in him by assuring her that he would bring Lazarus back to life.

Martha knew Jesus well. She loved him as a good friend. She had faith in what he taught and in what he could do. Martha provides an example for our relationship with Jesus. Jesus calls us to know him, to be friends with him, to have faith in him. How have I responded?
