Sharing the Word for December 9, 2021

Thursday of the Second Week of Advent

December 9, 2021
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Isaiah 41:13-20

God speaks words of encouragement to his people: “Fear not. Insignificant as you are, I will help you. You shall rejoice in the Lord. I will not forsake you. I will grasp your right hand. You shall rejoice in Me.”

God promises his people strength and fruitfulness. It all arises from his infinite creative power. There’s no need for the people to attract his attention by their excellence or strength or virtue. God cares for them just because he loves them, even if they are no better than creeping things.

God’s creative power is active in our lives too–here and now. We need to be reminded occasionally of our need and God’s generosity lest we overlook God’s gifts or take them for granted.
