Tuesday of the Fifth Week of Lent
March 28, 2023
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Numbers 21:4-9
The Israelites are complaining, so the Lord sends deadly serpents into their midst. They repent of their sinfulness. God sends them a remedy: a bronze serpent that would cure them if they looked upon it. Later, Jesus would compare himself lifted up on the cross to the saving serpent in the desert.
Most of us have never been bitten by a poisonous serpent. But we have all been infected with the venom of sinfulness within us and the poison of the atmosphere around us. If we don’t do something about the infection in and around us, we could sicken and die.
These concluding days of Lent are a good time for us to look up to the Lord and ask him to heal us.
