“We know that all things work together for good for those who love God”—Romans 8:28
One of the most consoling passages found in the New Testament are the words of St. Paul in his letter to the Romans: “We know that all things work together for good for those who love God” (8:28). Because St. Paul experienced his own weakness and sin— but also God’s mercy—he could sympathize with others in their weaknesses. Notice that St. Paul says all things, not some things. Even our past sins, once we’ve turned away from them, can be used by God for the benefit of ourselves or others. Sometimes we can see that, but often we cannot. Trust solely in Divine Providence, and all will work out supremely well. Since God has created our beautiful and endless universe, his Providence, his loving plans for you and me guide it—and personally guide our daily activities. Trust him, and the more easily his providential plan will work to your benefit. Trusting his loving Providence releases his power on my behalf. The greater the trust, the more the power is at work.
Lord, help me see how your Providence always works in my favor. Amen.
