What Color Vestments Can Be Worn at a Funeral Mass?

Q: I have seen celebrants at funerals wear white, purple or black vestments. Are all of these colors permitted? Isn’t this a Mass of Resurrection?

A: The Order of Christian Funerals refers to this as a “Mass of Christian Burial” and notes: “The liturgical color chosen for funerals should express Christian hope but should not be offensive to human grief or sorrow. In the United States, white, violet, or black vestments may be worn at the funeral rites and at other offices and Masses for the dead” (#39).
