Q: When Pope John XXIII was beatified in 2000, the date assigned for his feast was October 11, the day that Vatican II began in 1962. The feast has since been moved to June 3, the day he died in 1963. Why the change?
A: I am not aware of any official explanation. It is very common to celebrate a person’s feast on the day that he or she died. Some people would prefer not to link Pope John XXIII so closely to Vatican II. He convoked that council and presided over its first session (October through December 1962).

I am confused because on my calendar it has it on October 11 still.
