Priest with ALS continues to minister, feels God’s blessings

INDIANAPOLIS (CNS) — The pilgrims rode in a boat across choppy waves on the Sea of Galilee with wind gusting and rain blowing into their boat. A greater storm was churning in the hearts and minds of the pilgrims and the priest who was leading them in their journey of faith through the Holy Land in November 2019.

Msgr. Paul Koetter, at the time pastor of Holy Spirit Parish in Indianapolis, was suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, a degenerative nerve disorder commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

In pandemic, Catholic college students still build community

WASHINGTON (CNS) — In a school year turned upside down by the pandemic, groups of students at the Marianist-run University of Dayton in Ohio have been striving to keep some things constant: supporting each other in their faith and reaching out to the school community.

The students, part of seven Marianist Student Communities on campus, have a road map for this because the group houses have been part of the campus for over 25 years.
