As the feast of Saint Anthony (June 13) draws near, my memories go back to Padua where I spent several days in 2014.

Older churches most always count Saint Anthony among their pantheon of statues.

St. Anthony of Padua (1195-1231) was a Franciscan friar who spent a number of years as a traveling preacher.

The Way is a film about a father who completes the 500-mile pilgrimage his son had begun. It’s a story of broken individuals on the way to recovery.

Franciscans and Muslims encountered one another during the lifetime of Saint Francis (1181-1226). Indeed, he sent friars to the Holy Land in 1217.

The Latin word novena means “nine.” Novenas are a form of prayer in which a person, individually or with a group, prays for some special intention for nine days.

When the Word took on flesh in Christ, not only were human beings lifted up to a new and glorious dignity, but all other creatures were lifted up as well.
