The Lion King
In time for the 25th anniversary of the original animated film, Disney returns to Africa for The Lion King, a magnificent CGI remake about Simba (voiced by JD McCrary and, later, Donald Glover), a lion cub born to be king.
The Dead Don’t Die
Writer-director Jim Jarmusch’s latest film about a zombie apocalypse in small-town middle America premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, where I served on the ecumenical jury last May. Although much applauded, the droll, sociopolitical comedy did not win any prizes.
A Dog’s Journey
Grandparents Ethan (Dennis Quaid) and Hannah (Marg Helgenberger) live on a farm in Michigan. Their dog, Bailey (voice of Josh Gad), loves to play with Ethan and keep an eye on their granddaughter, CJ (played at different stages by Abby Ryder Fortson and Kathryn Prescott).
UglyDolls
A factory produces different kinds of felt dolls, and all of them must pass through quality control inspection. When a doll is deemed imperfect, it is sent to a hidden and remote inlet along the shoreline called Uglyville.
Dumbo
World War I has just ended. Holt (Colin Farrell) has returned to his job at the circus after losing his left arm in battle. While he was away, his wife died. Since then, his daughter, Milly (Nico Parker), and son, Joe (Finley Hobbins), have been staying with kind circus performers.
