Both Francis and Clare sometimes traced the sign of the cross on someone who needed a healing. Their action showed that it is God who heals; humans are only the means of that healing. But that also means that we have the power to make somebody feel better or safer. With that in mind, why not call or write a sick friend or relative? Caring heals.
