There is no better way to conclude the framing of our day than by saying, “Thank you.” Students often ask me what I am thankful for. I tell them I do not have a long list of the incredible things God has accomplished in my life, but simply that he has not yet given up on me. I know that God is with me for the long (or short) haul of my life, all the way through eternity. Through his commitment to me personally, I still want to serve him, however imperfectly, I still want to know him better, and I still long for his love to take possession of me. His persistent care of me, his unyielding commitment to me and to the ins and outs of my life, and his uplifting encouragement in the face of my repeated failings and boneheaded mistakes is reason enough for me to be thankful. Even if I do not enter heaven with the band playing my song, I will be eternally grateful for his love.

Lord Jesus Christ, your healing presence brings life and restores us to wholeness of mind, body, and spirit. Speak your word to us and give us renewed hope, strength, and courage to follow you in the midst of life’s sorrows and joys. Amen.
