Reflect
C.S. Lewis wrote that God sees us as connected, “like a very complicated tree.” Do you see how there are no borders when it comes to our earth? What invisible—or visible—barriers exist that keep you disconnected from others?
Pray
God, the fires that sear the West Coast of America turn the setting sun
into a circle of magenta in the East.
The hurricanes that thrash doors and windows in the South
move up and drown the inland farms of the Northeast.
In this suffering, one thing becomes illuminated:
We are all here together.
Today, let us let go of seeing anyone as “other.”
Let us pray for our whole, human, interconnected world.
Act
In a journal write down some of the words from your prayer for those in distress today and return to those words for guidance in future prayers.
