Reflect
In just six years, Alphonsus Rodriguez (1532-1617) lost his mother, wife, and young children. Who would have blamed the 38-year-old if he’d become bitter and angry with God? Instead, Alphonsus became a Jesuit lay brother and served as the community’s doorkeeper on the island of Majorca. His welcome was so warm that people would take the ferry from nearby mainland Spain just to chat with him.
Pray
St. Alphonsus, your story makes me smile—
and reminds me that when things seem the darkest,
the Light is still shining.
Act
Give a smile and welcoming word to someone who needs it.
