Reflect
Today reflect on a passage from Henri Nouwen, “Whereas the way of the world is to insist on publicity, celebrity, popularity, and getting maximum exposure, God prefers to work in secret…in God’s sight the things that really matter seldom take place in public.” What comes up as you consider these words?
Pray
Today I will turn from the world’s
way of measuring my success and worth,
and instead, know that God deeply values
all of who I am.
Yes, I trust that away
from the world’s judgment and glare,
my life is precious.
The beauty unfailingly seen by God.
Act
Be extra gentle with yourself today; allow time to shed the pressures of the world.
1 thought on “God Works in Secret”
I think I am not alone in longing for SIGNIFICANCE–in making a positive impact in the world or at least in my corner of it & in Church community. My great joy is in my Liturgical ministries (lector, EM, singer in the choir). Last year I was asked to run for Formation Director & wound up being the only candidate so I was elected, so I have started teaching formation classes & actively serve on the Council.
I am grateful for this reminder that my work behind the scenes is significant.
I sometimes write songs, but my projects have not yet come to fruition to the extent I would like.
Thank you for the reminder that the “audience” that really matters is “the audience of One”: ALMIGHTY GOD, & our most important work is cooperation with the Holy Spirit Who works with, within & through us to accomplish His purposes. Ultimately all GLORY belongs to Him.
