Reflect
Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati was a young man in Italy in the 1920s. He is often pictured smiling, laughing, hiking, or smoking his pipe. Pier Giorgio was known for his enthusiasm for fun and adventure, along with his utter commitment to the poor. He reminds us that being a Christian is not dull or superficial. It is about connection with God and others!
Pray
Jesus, you walked this earth and smiled.
Through the intercession of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati,
fill me with joy and enthusiasm for the Christian life.
Help me to remember sanctification and smiling are complementary.
We can serve others and enjoy life too!
When we set aside time to reach out to the margins of society,
we are reminded time and again of the joy that comes along
with doing good works.
And when it’s time for us to relax, disconnect from work,
and do something for ourselves to recharge our batteries,
help us remember that self-care is not selfish.
It means taking care of the temple of the Holy Spirit that resides in us.
Amen.
Act
Take time today to smile and do something just for fun and laughs with your kids, spouse, or friends. Tell a joke, watch a funny show together, or play a silly game.
