The Last Will Be First

Reflect

When I once asked a friar if I should give money to homeless people, knowing that they may spend it on something destructive, he said, “Of course! Would you rather err on the side of charity or suspicion?” I’ve never forgotten those words—and they are the heartbeat of today’s prayer.

Pray

Dear God,
too often I take
for granted my blessings:
home, health, family, security.
But not everyone
is so fortunate.

Let me give what I can
to those in need.
Let me look into the eyes
of those from whom we often turn away.

Because they are, as I am,
your child: loved and favored.

Amen.

Act

Offer this prayer in solidarity with those who struggle on the periphery. They are no less cherished by God than you or I.
