St. Katharine Drexel (1858-1955) expected Pope Leo XIII to say yes to her request for missionaries to minister to indigenous people in the US Pacific Northwest. But the pope suggested she herself become a missionary. His challenge led to Katharine’s nearly 40 years of service as a woman religious.
