“I’ve made it.” In a moment of self-reflection, have you ever looked around at your life—all that you’ve done, all that you have, and all that the future holds—and realized that you were on a mountain?
“Beginnings are scary, endings are usually sad, but it’s the middle that counts the most.”
This quote from the movie Hope Floats has always struck a chord with me. And lately I’ve been thinking about it a lot. In fact, a few weeks ago, after a particularly trying and chaotic morning, I posted on Facebook: “Before kids, mornings were so much easier. But they sure weren’t as adventurous or fun.”
Why do we make such a big deal out of the feast of someone we know so very little about?
March 17, the Feast Day of St. Patrick, is good time to wear green, celebrate the coming of spring, and maybe hope for ;good luck in the form of a four-leaf clover.
No one, no matter how powerful, can control how we feel or what we think of ourselves. And yet even the weakest words from the weakest people often do just that, even to adults.
Seek truth and report it. Minimize harm. Act independently. Be accountable and transparent. Those are the four principles that the Society of Professional Journalists says are the foundation of ethical journalism.
We are all masters, we are all experts, when it comes to justifying ourselves.
Guilty by association. While a concept that does not stand up in a court of law, we know that it is a very powerful force in the court of public opinion. When someone does something bad, the moral character of everyone around them is called into question.
A delicious meal, a beautiful symphony, a hot shower. With five senses and billions of nerves, there are an infinite number of ways to experience pleasure from the world around us.
