Sharing the Word for December 15, 2021

Wednesday of the Third Week of Advent

December 15, 2021
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Psalm 85:9ab, 10, 11-12, 13-14

This psalm was probably composed during the Babylonian captivity when Israel was tempted to believe that God had abandoned his people. The author proclaims a time of coming happiness, and the people call out for fulfillment of what God is promising.

There will be peace and salvation. God’s glory will shine forth together with justice and peace. The land will yield its increase.

In response to God’s promises, the people voice their refrain from the Book of Isaiah: “Let it be. May the clouds rain down the Just One and the earth bring forth a Savior.” This refrain has become the theme song for the liturgical season of Advent. In it we acknowledge God’s plans for us and pray for the coming of the Savior.
