Sharing the Word for December 17, 2021

Friday of the Third Week of Advent

December 17, 2021
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Psalm 72:1-2, 3-4ab, 7-8, 17

Today’s Responsorial Psalm tells us what we have to look forward to in the coming of the Lord. First there is justice: being like God, sharing in his life, his richness, his righteousness. In the biblical sense, justice is much more than seeing that everyone has what is coming to him–that rights are being respected. Justice is rather having access to the godliness of God. That’s what God wants to bestow on us before everything else.

Peace is the fullest integration of life’s blessings–the fullest union of the good things of heaven and earth. The kind of peace that God promises is much more than the absence of conflict. In the coming of the Lord justice shall flourish and fullness of peace forever.
