Daily Reading from the USCCB: Matthew 1:18-25
Now comes a series of narratives that deal with God’s interventions in preparation for the birth of the Messiah. The first story deals with Joseph–the last ancestor of Jesus to be mentioned in Matthew’s genealogy, and thus the legal father of Jesus.
In this story Joseph is confused about his betrothed wife, Mary. She was pregnant and nobody knew how she had become so. Joseph doesn’t know what to do. An angel gives him directions that would guide him in carrying out God’s will about the Messiah.
There are times when we don’t know what to do either. God generally doesn’t send us an angel to lead us, but he always finds a way to point us in the right direction.
