Feast of the Presentation of the Lord
February 2, 2021
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Hebrews 2:14-18
Today is the feast of Jesus’ presentation in the temple. We celebrate Jesus’ being brought to the temple in accord with Jewish ritual. There he encounters Simeon and Anna. This feast–forty days after Christmas–also marks the end of the Christmas season.
The reading from the Letter to the Hebrews assigned for this day speaks of Jesus’ taking on our humanity. God became a human being so that he could free us from our sinfulness. He was to be like us. He was to become our faithful high priest before God. Through his suffering he was to make up for the sins of us all.
Today we remember we have a human savior sent into our midst for our salvation, and we give thanks.
