Daily Reading from the USCCB: Genesis 1:20-2:4a
The account of creation continues. Lastly God creates human beings in his own likeness. Being created in God’s likeness means sharing God’s dominion over all the other creatures. Man helps God to be in charge. The world that God puts humans in charge of is a world of harmony in which there is no struggle or violence.
Last of all God creates rest. This is not a matter of recuperating from the effort of creation. God’s creative action didn’t cost him effort. God’s rest was a matter of taking pleasure in what he had accomplished.
As Genesis moves forward we’ll see that this peaceable state did not continue. But God still takes pleasure in his creation. All of it–including us–continues to be good.
