Wednesday of the Fifth Week in Ordinary Time
February 9, 2022
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Mark 7:14-23
Jesus speaks to the crowds and his disciples about relating to God. It’s not a matter of saying the right words or performing certain ritual actions. What matters is what’s in our heart and what comes out of our heart.
Christian spirituality has taught believers how to pray. We are to pray with attention–keeping our minds focused on the meaning of what we’re saying. We’re to pray with dedication to the greatness and the majesty of God. We’re to pray with love for God and for our neighbor, conscious that prayer isn’t so much a matter of asking for things but of expressing our confidence that God’s providence will prevail. Overall, prayer is a matter of lifting our hearts with reverence to God.
