Daily reading from the USCCB: 1 John 4:11-18
John has now offered his hearers the basics of Christian belief. These basics are that Jesus is the Christ and that he has come in the flesh as a real human being. Jesus is the Savior who offered himself for the sins of the world. Jesus is the Son of God. John now speaks about some further implications of God’s love for us. God is himself love. Those who love remain in God and God in them.
This likeness to God that his love for us and ours for him confers on us gives us confidence in the day of judgment. There’s no need for us to fear punishment because love drives out fear. Does fear play any part in my relationship with God?
