Daily Reading from the USCCB: Matthew 10:7-15
More marching orders for the recently identified apostles. They were to do what Jesus did in this earliest part of his ministry. They were to heal, to raise from the dead, to cleanse the unclean, to cast out demons.
But their activity was to be directed to the basic message of Jesus’ preaching: the kingdom is at hand. Getting that message across was the most important part of their mission. They were to proceed without pretensions: no extra money, no extra clothes, minimal travel gear. They were to accept the accommodations that people offered them, not seeking special comforts. The delivery of the message of the kingdom was what counted.
All of us are messengers of the kingdom. How devoted are we to that mission?
