Daily Reading from the USCCB: John 17:11b-19
Jesus prays to the Father for his disciples. He asks the Father to continue to preserve and protect them. He prays that they will not be harmed by the hostility of the world–the world to which they do not belong, a world in which Jesus himself was an outsider. He asks that they be made holy as they are being sent out into the world to proclaim Jesus’ truth.
Discipleship is not easy. It involves sharing the joy of Jesus and the Father, but also includes being the object of the world’s hatred. Disciples are sent into a world that does not welcome them or understand them.
What does the world mean to me? How does the world fit with my relationship with Jesus?
