Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus

June 24, 2022
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Luke 15:3-7

The Solemnity of the Sacred Heart is about God’s love for his people–a strange sort of love. A shepherd who is more interested in one lost sheep than he is in 99 raises questions. Doesn’t it make more sense to look after the majority? Ninety-nine sheep are worth a lot more than one.

And when it comes to sinners it seems only right that there be more joy in heaven over 99 righteous people that over a single sinner. But Jesus doesn’t love that way. For him the one who needs the most attention is the one who gets the most attention. It’s a matter of loving, and God’s love isn’t governed by logic.

God is madly in love with us. And we mustn’t forget that.
