Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, Apostles
June 29, 2020
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Matthew 16:13-19
Today the Church celebrates two great men: St. Peter and St. Paul. But it didn’t seem that they were going to amount to much at the beginning.
Peter was full of enthusiasm for Jesus, and claimed to be willing to lay down his life for him, but when the time came he couldn’t even bring himself to admit that he knew Jesus. His story was not particularly impressive.
It was much the same with Paul. He was a persecutor of the Christians–so intense that he went from town to town to root them out. He was not always impressive either.
There are chapters in the lives of most of us that we are not proud of. But Jesus can make something of us all.
