Thursday of the Third Week of Lent

Daily Reading from the USCCB: Jeremiah 7:23-28
Today God censures his people because they haven’t listened to the prophets he sends. We need direction from God. We’re not wise enough to make our own way through the life that God has entrusted to us.
Formerly God taught his people through the prophets. Now we have the Church to guide us, and Scripture and liturgy, and the example of the saints. God also guides our behavior by the needs of the poor. He leads us in prayer. We don’t always pay heed to God’s guidance.
Instead, we listen to the voices of secular ambition–of pleasure, of self-fulfillment. The message of God’s enemies often seems more attractive than that of his friends. We turn our backs and not our faces to the Lord.
