Sharing the Word for March 2, 2021

Tuesday of the Second Week of Lent

March 2, 2021
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Isaiah 1:10, 16-20

The sinfulness of Sodom and Gomorrah brought them to destruction. Those that God refers to here as Sodom and Gomorrah are likewise headed for ruin.

God calls his people to repentance. “Wash yourselves clean!” At the same time, the Lord expresses his willingness to forgive: “Though your sins be like scarlet, they may become white as snow.” God ends his address to his people with a threat: “If you refuse and resist, the sword shall consume you.”

God is not speaking only to the Israelites of long ago. God is also speaking to us. We are sinners. God is willing to forgive us if we are willing to abandon our sins. Otherwise ruin awaits us. “The mouth of the Lord has spoken” to us.
