Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord
March 25, 2021
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Isaiah 7:10-14; 8:10
Today is the Solemnity of the Annunciation, when Gabriel communicated to Mary God’s plans for the coming of our Savior.
The reading from Isaiah gives us another example of God’s planning. God had offered to give King Ahaz a sign of his involvement in Ahaz’s political affairs. Ahaz refuses the sign. But God persists. A child will be born who will be an indication of God’s care for his people.
God is also involved in our affairs. We don’t always appreciate his involvement. But God stays involved anyhow because he cares for us. God’s participation in human affairs was active in the time of Isaiah, in the time of Mary of Nazareth, and is still so today. God asks for our acceptance and our thanks.
