Wednesday of the First Week of Lent
March 9, 2022
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Luke 11:29-32
In today’s Gospel reading we hear about the queen of the south who came to benefit from the wisdom of Solomon, and about the Ninevites who listened to God’s word presented by Jonah.
Jesus tells the crowds that when judgment day comes, all of these will be better off than the Jews of Jesus’ time, because these people listened to God’s message whereas Jesus’ contemporaries did not.
The presentation of this passage of Luke in this first week of Lent is meant to remind us that the Lord speaks to us, too. And he expects to be listened to. We might want to ask ourselves where and how the Lord speaks to me, and how I answer.
