Sharing the Word for May 24, 2022

Tuesday of the Sixth Week of Easter

May 24, 2022
Daily Reading from the USCCB: John 16:5-11

The apostles strive to understand what’s going on in Jesus’ last hours. He’s told them that he is going away and that the spokesman–the advocate–is coming who will set things right.

The advocate will address the sinfulness of those who refused to believe in Jesus. The advocate will show the justice of Jesus’ life and ministry. The advocate will proclaim judgment against the hostile powers of the world which drove Jesus to death. Everything that was part of the rejection of Jesus will be reversed. The advocate will see that righteousness triumphs.

The Holy Spirit–our defender and our advocate–is still at work today bringing the life and death of Jesus into full effectiveness for the salvation of the world.
