Daily Reading from the USCCB: Acts 15:22-31
The apostles and other elders at Jerusalem sent a committee back to Antioch to inform the Christians there about the resolution of the questions that had arisen.
The Gentile Christians were to avoid certain practices that would disgust the Jewish Christians. They could then live together peacefully. The Gentile Christians found no problem with this solution to the tensions they had been experiencing. It now was clear that not everything is equally important in being a follower of Jesus. Some demands of Christian life are essential while others–though nonessential–could serve to preserve tranquility and order.
The Christian community was now at peace. The Holy Spirit had spoken once more. Paul and his colleagues were free to continue their ministry as teachers and evangelists.
