Memorial of Saint Leo the Great
November 10, 2021
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Luke 17:11-19
Jesus expects us to be grateful for his gifts to us. Being grateful is not something that only saintly people do. Gratitude is something that we are all called to practice, even people on the fringes of faith like the Samaritan in today’s Gospel.
And yet to a greater or less extent we are all ingrates. None of us has given to God really adequate thanks for everything we have received. None of us can claim even to be aware of everything that God has given us.
But God keeps on being generous. He never stops giving. He never takes back the gifts he has given us. The Church invites us all to pray: “We give Thee thanks, O almighty God, for all Thy benefits.”
