Sharing the Word for November 18, 2020

Wednesday of the Thirty-third Week in Ordinary Time

November 18, 2020
Daily reading from the USCCB: Luke 19:11-28

Jesus tells those who are moving toward Jerusalem with him a double parable. First, the story of the nobleman who takes a long journey to get possession of a kingdom, leaving servants behind to look after his affairs. When he gets back he rewards the servants according to their success in tending his affairs.

Jesus’ hearers were looking for the immediate fulfillment of his kingdom. In the narrative of the nobleman and his long journey, Jesus implies that the kingdom may still be far off. But in the meantime the servants have work to do, tending to the master’s business till he returns.

We too, await the final coming of Jesus’ kingdom. We too, are called to work hard at Jesus’ affairs until he comes.
