Daily Reading from the USCCB: Luke 12:1-7
The enemies of Jesus were powerful. They had the potential to make trouble for Jesus and his disciples. In today’s reading Jesus tells his followers that in spite of this hostility there is no reason for them to be anxious–no reason to be afraid.
The secret designs of Jesus’ enemies would one day be revealed. Their threats would be overcome by the power of God. The disciples should take comfort in the fact that they are loved and cared for by the Father who looks after every aspect of their being–even the smallest, the most insignificant.
Jesus still has enemies in the world. His disciples are still under threat of various kinds. But God has not given up looking after his beloved sparrows.
