Sharing the Word for September 22, 2021

Wednesday of the Twenty-fifth Week in Ordinary Time

September 22, 2021
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Luke 9:1-6

Jesus is sending his apostles out to proclaim the kingdom. They should not worry about the equipment they would need or where they would stay. The important thing is to get the job done.

Obviously the apostles will need food and clothing and a place to stay. But all of those things are secondary to carrying out Jesus’ agenda for the kingdom. Proclaiming the kingdom is the primary consideration. That’s the job that needs to get done.

Today we have churches and schools and all kinds of organizations–all dedicated to the agenda of Jesus. But we need to be careful that these secondary things don’t become primary. The important thing is to get the job done. And the job is the kingdom.
