Feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, Archangels
September 29, 2022
Daily Reading from the USCCB: John 1:47-51
There’s more to creation than what we perceive. God is involved in it every day. We are surrounded by angels–agents of God’s love for us.
Today the Church celebrates the feast of the archangels Michael, Raphael, and Gabriel. These are special agents of God’s care for his people. According to Christian tradition each of them undertook one or more particular projects to carry out the providence of God.
The Church today looks on each of them as patrons of certain aspects of our world. Michael is the patron saint of security forces, Gabriel of telecommunications, Raphael of travelers. But the specifics of the work of each archangel are not as important as what they represent: God’s love and God’s care for us human creatures.
