Memorial of Saint Jerome

September 30, 2022
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Luke 10:13-16

The offer of salvation that Jesus proclaimed to the towns and villages he visited was not a matter of “take it or leave it.” At issue was the eternal salvation of those Jesus addressed. If they accepted his offer of salvation, they would be welcomed into the kingdom. Otherwise they would be rejected.

Many people today reject Jesus. They’re not interested in what he has to offer. They look on faith and religion as a kind of hobby–appropriate for those who like that sort of thing, irrelevant to those who don’t.

There are plenty of other things more appealing than Jesus’ kingdom. But rejection of the kingdom makes us vulnerable to rejection by the Lord. “Woe to you, Washington; woe to you, Cincinnati.”
